FROM THE OFFICE OF THE RECTOR
VIGILance 2010THE REVEREND FR. P.S. WINTON

On Thursday, June 17th, 2010 St. John’s Episcopal Church initiated VIGILance 2010, a Prayer Vigil for the stewardship of God’s earth with a special emphasis on the Gulf Coast and oceans and waterways of the earth.

In a service of prayer, meditation and gentle music we will implore God, the Creator of the Universe, to intervene and stop the oil now seeping into the ocean, onto the beaches and into the lives of innocent creatures and people.

We will confess to God our own implication in our failure to care for the earth God has entrusted to us and we will recommit ourselves to tend and care for God’s earth.

We are inviting all who would like to join us at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Charlotte, North Carolina, to do so. But further:

We are calling all people of faith throughout the United States to devote this same hour, from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. local time on Thursday, June 17th - to prayer and reflection on this earth-changing matter. We are calling for NATIONAL ecumenical participation.

Please do pass this VIGILance 2010 announcement on as you see fit. An outline of the liturgy and other communication materials to be used in the St. John’s service are available and may be downloaded for customization. A copy of the full liturgy to be used at St. John's will be posted soon.
