Baptism
outward and visible signs of inward and spiritual grace,
given by Christ
as sure and certain means by which we receive grace
Baptism is the beginning of our life of Christians when we are “sealed as Christ’s own forever.” Baptism happens only once in a person’s life and is a celebration for the individual, the family and the whole Christian Community of St. John’s.
At St. John’s Holy Baptism is the initiation of children or adults into the full Christian Life. It should be sought only when there is serious intention of the youth or adult, or the family and godparents of an infant or younger child to participate fully and regularly in the life of the church, in worship, educational programs and mission in our community and the world.
Baptism is the symbol of full membership in the Christian community, so that a baptized person of any age is welcomed to receive Eucharist.
