Building and Grounds Maintenance:
The many "projects" (painting rooms, cleaning out storage spaces, planting and gardening, light carpentry, etc.) that need to be done around St. John‘s are tracked and individuals or families can contact the coordinator and volunteer to take a project on that fits with their schedule. Volunteers also work to help beautify and clean up the church grounds seasonally. Dates and times of workdays are advertised in advance.

Guardians of Eden:
Becoming earth friendly at St. John‘s, the Guardians of Eden are looking at several projects that will promote recycling, sustainability and reduction of natural resource consumption. While we have some great things planned for the fall in both adult education and children‘s ministries, this group also suggests goals you can consider within your own home in an effort to be better stewards of God‘s earth.

Memorial Garden Committee:
St. John‘s beautiful memorial garden is enjoyed by members and guests alike, a place to enjoy the beauty of God‘s bounty, to worship, to meditate and to offer thanks for the gifts we are given. The garden is lovingly maintained by members and we can always use help. We keep a list of willing volunteers to call on for special jobs: plants moved,
limbs sawed, limbs taken to the trash, mulch spread, dirt moved, etc. Much of the care for the garden is done on a flexible schedule. We love to have volunteers who drop by the garden on their own schedule or with a friend to weed, pick up sticks, and help with odd jobs.

News and Communication:
There are several opportunities to get involved in communicating to the parish all that is happening at St. John‘s. Our newsletter, The Voice, is published monthly and help is appreciated in the production and printing of this publication. We will soon launch Communication Central and will need volunteers to maintain the displays of brochures, booklets and other communication pieces. If you‘re creative and enjoy graphic design work, we always have a special project that can use your talent!

Parish Leadership:
St. John‘s has a rich history of dedicated lay leadership. The Vestry is composed of 12 elected members of the parish. Four Vestry members are elected at the annual meeting in November to serve a three-year term beginning the following January. From the Vestry, a Senior Warden and Junior Warden are elected each year.
The Diocese of North Carolina holds its Annual Convention in January. St. John‘s elects six delegates and six alternates to represent our parish. Of these, one delegate and one alternate are elected from the youth membership and have the same responsibilities and duties as their adult colleagues.
In addition to these elected leadership roles, the Vestry appoints a Treasurer and Finance Chair to serve the parish. If you would like to become involved in the leadership of St. John‘s, contact the Senior Warden or the Rector to learn more about these ministries.

St. John's Preschool:
The Preschool is a ministry of the parish. The Director, Jenny Taylor, along with a dedicated staff, seeks to serve young children and their families in the Charlotte area. Our curriculum is directed toward the formation of basic concepts and readiness skills through the use of many varied hands-on concrete learning experiences. Above all, we believe that each child is unique and we seek to meet his or her particular individual needs in a secure, emotionally
supportive environment. It is our sincere hope that the children who come to St. John‘s Preschool will find a joyful, enriching learning experience that will develop a love for learning and a sense of security that will last a lifetime.

Social Media:
St. John‘s has a Facebook page, a blog for Fr. Paul, a Twitter account and a website! To make these as dynamic as they can be takes a team of volunteers who like to communicate! If you are knowledgeable in any of these
applications and would like to help, we would welcome you to this new and expanding ministry.
