This is the Rector's principal teaching platform. The teaching offered reflects and reinforces the current direction and objectives of the parish. For the Fall Term at St. John's the emphasis will be: Christian Discipleship. what is it? How do we practice it? Even though the class is large, there is an opportunity for some questions and some back and forth - in fact - it works best that wqay. Be prepared to learn. Be prepared to laugh. From time to time there will be speakers other than the Rector - consistent with the program and mission life of the parish. guest speakers will be announced.

Sharing and Caring Group
10 a.m. in Room 230
This group meets to pray and discuss our individual concerns, needs, accomplishments, and spiritual walk in a friendly confidential small group setting. Our goal is to prayerfully encourage, support and guide each other. Anyone is welcome--once or all year long!

Bible Study with The Rev. Dr. Robert Cooley
10:00 am in the Parish Hall
Dr. Cooley is the past President of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and internationally known biblical scholar and archaeologist. Please join the class on a walk through the Bible with Dr. Cooley, whose wisdom, vast knowledge and gentle spirit allows him to bring the context of the biblical stories to life in lectures that are engaging, easy to receive, and life changing as we apply principals learned to our lives. The class is currently studying Paul's letter to the Colossians.

WEEKDAY GROUPS
Morning Prayer, Bible Study and Breakfast 
Mondays, 7:00 a.m. in Chapel, Room 208, and Parlor
The fellowship begins with the service of Daily Morning Prayer in the sanctuary chapel at 7:00AM. Next we share a share a light breakfast with each other. Then, at 7:30AM, we share in the study of the Bible. The group is currently studying I Corinthians using a guided Bible study such as William Barclay's Commentary on books in the New Testament or other Christ-centered books. The group concludes the fellowship at 8:00AM with prayer.

St. John's Uptown Girls Bible Study
2nd and 4th Mondays
Our purpose is to bring together through fellowship, study and service the women of St. John's who work in the Charlotte Centre City area. While our name implies Uptown women, we welcome ALL working wormen. We meet twice each month for lunch for a Bible Study/Bag Luncheon led by Rev. Amy at St. Peter's Episcopal Church which is located uptown on the corner of Seventh and Tryon Streets.
LIFT Bible Study (Living in Faith Together)
Wednesdays at 11 a.m. in Room 309
LIFT alternates between an 8-10 week study of a specific book in the Bible and books that explore our Christian faith. Our next topic will begin the first week of January, when we will be discussing the book, God Grew Tired of Us: A Memoir by John Bul Dau and Michael S. Sweeney. LIFT welcomes all women who enjoy sharing different viewpoints in relationship to their faith journey. The Rector facilitates the group 3 weeks each month with the 4th (and 5th) weeks led by lay leadership.

Thursday Morning Women's Bible Study

This small group meets from early September through mid-may and will be studying the book of Romans this fall.

"Growning to Perfection" Women’s Bible Study
Thursdays, 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. in Room 312
This group studies various materials from books of the Bible to topical studies. Leadership is shared. We are a lively, welcoming group.

Friday Men’s Bible Study

Uptown Friday Morning Bible Study
Fridays at 7 a.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church (7th Street b/t N. Tryon and Church Streets)
This group emphasizes Scripture, prayer and fellowship. They will explore the principles of a relationship with God, humility, leadership, God's will for us, and His mission of the Church, through an exploration of books of the Old and New Testament. For 2010, the group plans on reading and discussing the relationships between Moses and Aaron, Esau and Jacob, Samuel and Saul, Saul and David, Ester and Mordecai, Jesus and Peter, and Paul and Barnabas.

Saturday Morning Bible Study with the Rector
Saturdays, 8:30 - 9:30am, Room 204/205
On almost all Saturday mornings, the Rector facilitates a Bible Study, following the 8:10am Holy Eucharist. Currently the group is studying The Acts of the Apostles.
