Dear Members of the Sunday Class:
The summer class schedule has now ended and we will be back to the 10:00 - 11:00 am time period this coming Sunday, August 22. NOTICE: We will be meeting in Tilson Hall. Our study has a new title: Bible 101: The Late New Testament Letters. We will give attention to lessons that can inform the 21st Century church as to faithfulness and "staying the course." To that end, we will complete the Letters of Paul during the next two weeks, and then we will select texts from the General Epistles. These will bring attention to right action as a necessary part of right belief, to persecution, and to false teaching. Major time will be devoted to the Writings of John, including The Revelation. This book has been a source of strength and encouragement to the church in times of persecution. Of all of the books in the Bible, it has the most panoramic sweep of history and of God's ultimate control over it. I look forward to our times together as we near the end of our "Journey through The Bible."
INVITATION AND IMPORTANT DATES: Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary invites you and your friends to attend the following events at the school:
1. September 30: 7:00 pm. Installation of Dr. Donald Fairbairn as the Robert E. Cooley Professor of Early Christianity. The installation provides the opportunity for him to lecture on "Jesus Wars? Listening for the Early Church's Consensus about Christ."
2. October 14: 7:00 pm. Screening of the film, "Little Town of Bethlehem." The film is about a nonviolence movement and engages a Christian, a Moslem and an Israeli Jew in a thoughtful conversation about the prospects
for peace in the Holy Land. DON'T MISS THIS!
3. January 27 and 28: 7:00 pm. Robert C. Cooley Center Annual Lectures. Dr. Michael Holmes, a renowned scholar and University Professor of Biblical Studies and Early Christianity at Bethel University, St. Paul, MN.
Thursday: "Which Books? Whose Interpretation? Scripture, Hermeneutics, and The Formation of the Christian Bible in Early Christianity."
Friday: "From Scrolls to Scrolling: Scripture, Technology, and the Word of God."

Dr. Robert E. Cooley is an internationally known biblical scholar and archaeologist. During his 17-year tenure as President
of Gordon–Conwell Theological Seminary in Boston, that institution became one of the largest and most respected Protestant
evangelical seminaries in America. Earlier in his life, as Professor of Anthropology and Religions Studies at Southwest Missouri
State University, Dr. Cooley became widely respected for his archaeological research, lectures, and publications, stemming
from decades of Middle Eastern excavations, particularly in Israel and Egypt. He continues to conduct tours of biblical studies
(almost 70 in the Holy Land) and to serve as a frequent consultant on Middle Eastern culture to the United States Congress.
