This course provides an in-depth look at the New Testament with Rev. Dr. Robert Cooley, former Dean and President of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, as your guide. Studying the New Testament can be an exciting and sometimes, an intimidating experience. This study of the New Testament is designed to make the adventure less daunting and more rewarding. The class surveys the contents of the New Testament and introduces members to the key themes of each book, demonstrating how Jesus Christ fulfilled God’s plan for his people.

Dr. Robert E. Cooley served from 1981 to 1997 as the second president of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Massachusetts. Under his leadership, the school experienced tremendous growth in faculty, majors, students, and financial strength. He retired as president on July 1, 1997, when he officially became the Seminary’s first Chancellor. In 2000, he was named President Emeritus. Dr. Cooley was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, completed the Bachelor of Arts degree in biblical studies and archaeology at Wheaton College, Illinois, and the Master of Arts degree in religious education at Wheaton Graduate School. He then earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Hebrew studies and Near Eastern archaeology at New York University. Prior to his coming to Gordon-Conwell, Dr. Cooley taught on the faculties of several midwestern colleges. In addition to teaching, he held a number of administrative posts ranging from assistant to the president at Dropsie University in Philadelphia to academic dean of Evangel College. He also served as professor of anthropology and religious studies and director of the Center for Archaeological Research at Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri. Dr. Cooley currently serves as Executive Director of the CTI Foundation, Carol Stream, Illinois, and as Distinguished Visiting Scholar and Counsel to the President at Bethel College and Seminary, St. Paul, Minnesota. Recognized widely for his research and writing in the field of archaeology, Dr. Cooley has overseen a number of cultural resource management projects for government agencies on the local, state and federal levels. During the past 40 years he has directed excavations at locations such as Tell Dothan, Khirbet Haiyan and Khirbet Raddana in Israel, Tell er-Retaba in Egypt and at numerous sites in North America. As a working scholar, Dr. Cooley has published widely and has remained active in a variety of professional societies. As a concerned citizen, he has been involved in numerous public, community and civic activities. As a committed Christian, he has given time and energy to the ministry of Christ's church around the world. He has served Christianity Today as a Senior Editor; and the World Relief Corporation, the international assistance arm of the National Association of Evangelicals USA, as chairman of the Board of Directors. This group represents more than 40,000 churches from over 70 denominations. Dr. Cooley is the past president of The Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada. Currently, he serves on the Board of Directors of InTrust magazine and is the president of In Trust, Inc. Dr. Cooley and his wife, Eileen, live Charlotte, North Carolina.
