Saint John's Episcopal Church

About EYC

Our mission is to provide a safe and fun environment for all youth.

Our hope is to assist youth with their spiritual growth in Christ.

At St. John's, youth are one of our biggest priorities.  Our Episcopal Youth Community (EYC) is one of the largest active youth groups in the Carolinas.  St. John's is blessed to have a very special youth group due to the efforts of a talented youth director in Brian Silldorff. Along with his enthusiastic adult leaders, Brian has created an excellent program for both Jr. EYC (Grades 6-8) and St. EYC (Grades 9-12).

In addition to Sunday school, we offer many opportunities for fellowship and spiritual growth.  Youth are invited to participate in church life through acolyting, helping with child care during church services, chalice bearing, and lay reading.  They also help with our annual Attic Sale, Vacation Bible School, and Advent Celebration.  Bible studies are offerred for both Jr. and Sr. EYC on Wednesday nights, from 7 to 8pm.

EYC Outreach & Fellowship

All youth are encouraged to do community service projects through EYC, in addition to supporting the overall St. John’s mission. These projects include volunteering at the soup kitchen, Souper Bowl Sunday, and Room at the Inn. One of the most fun and rewarding projects is raising awareness and money for world hunger. The youth gather pledge money to sponsor them for the ’30-Hour Famine’, safely supervised by our staff and parents. The youth have many activities during this time of fasting, from bowling to laser tag.

Junior EYC meets 5:00-7:00pm on Sunday evenings.

Senior EYC meets 6:30-8:30pm on Sunday evenings.

From 6:30-7:30pm, church parents provide a delicious supper for both groups.

Please join us for a great time with fun activities and great fellowship.

Trips & Activities

EYC offers many fun trips and activities!  Whitewater rafting, ski trips, and treks to the mountains & beaches are just a few of the recent activities.  Although most of these trips are for fellowship and fun, we also have activities that are designed to give our youth experience in reaching out and helping others.  The Jr. EYC has an annual mission trip to Appalachia, while our Sr. EYC members participate in the mission trip to Costa Rica, visiting and working with our sister parish, Todos Los Santos.  While all of these acitivities are fun, the mission trips are truly 'life-changing'.
