St. John's Episcopal Church - Readings

Saint John's Episcopal Church

Overview

The Clergy at St. John's would like to assist and encourage greater depth of understanding during the readings of scripture at our services. Our hope is that by giving parishioners access to these readings in advance of each service they will find meaning and relevance to their own lives, as well as increase comprehension in the context of the subsequent sermon.

In reading these excerpts, we also hope that you will be moved to take the time to discover more about the origins of these passages. Whether in church or at home, that part of your role as a responsible Christian will be to seek out His truths through knowledge of the Bible. Week by week, take a moment to read the sections of the Bible relating to the service, and not only will you find greater meaning in each service, but your understanding of Christian principles will grow as well.

Understanding the Table

Using the 'Readings' table to the left, each weeks readings and Gospel passages have been listed, by date, along with a link to a file that you can use to print out the passages.  Please note that sometimes the passages change after a review by the clergy.

For your reference, because of General Convention action, St. John's now follows the Revised Common Lectionary which replaces the Common Lectionary found in copies of the Book of Common Prayer, printed before 2007. Beginning with Advent 2007 we are in year A of the new lectionary which will be included in future printings of the Book of Common Prayer.
