EYC Advisors 2010-2011
Saint John’s utilizes an extensive network of volunteers to create many opportunities for relationships to form in EYC. One of the most significant roles in EYC is that of Advisor. Beyond attending youth group activities and handling logistics, Advisors serve as leaders for smaller groups of youth known as crews, where they have a chance to engage in service projects and fun activities outside of normal youth group activities.
EYC Advisors are adults (parents and non-parents) who facilitate the EYC program under the leadership of the Youth Ministries Director. EYC Advisors wear many caps. They provide spiritual guidance, act as chaperones, coordinate special EYC events, and act as liaisons between particular ministries and the youth community.
St. John’s is thorough in the selection and training of Advisors. The primary goal in selecting Advisors is the safety and spiritual growth of our youth. Advisors are required to attend advisor training sessions as well as mandatory classes on specific subjects and age appropriate issues. Female Advisors are matched with girls and male Advisors are paired with boys. Typically, there are 2-3 advisors per age group.
Advisors tend to follow their group as they advance in grade (i.e. a 6th grader advisor will be with the same group as a 7th grade advisor as the grade advances). After 8th grade, Advisors might begin back at 6th (or where they are needed) or they may have an interest in Sr. EYC.
